4. SBA Enables Businesses to Purchase or Renovate Capital Assets

The US Small Business Administration's (SBA) 504 loan program helps small businesses finance the acquisition and/or renovation of capital assets including land, buildings, and equipment. Small business, using 504 loans, can access to the same low-cost, fixed-rate, long-term financing large businesses have through bond markets.

Benefits to small businesses include:

  • Lower down payment
  • Fixed interest rate, usually below market rate
  • Financing of all project costs, including acquisition (land and building, land and construction of building, renovations, machinery and equipment) and soft costs (title insurance, legal, appraisal, environmental and bridge loan fees, closing costs)
  • Collateral is typically assets-financed, allowing other assets to be free of liens and available to secure other needed financing
  • Long term financing with self-amortizing 20-year real estate loans and 10- or 20-year heavy equipment loans
Read about the 504 Loan Program.

For more information, contact Joe Loddo, District Director for SBA's Washington Metropolitan Area District Office, by email or (202) 606-4000 ext. 200. Or, contact one of the two Certified Development Companies that service the 504 loans for District of Columbia businesses:

  • Chesapeake Business Finance Corporation at (202) 342-2973
