Distracted Driving, Tax Sale, Grant Applications, and Financing
Beginning July 1, 2004, it is illegal for motorists to use a mobile phone or other electronic device while driving in the District of Columbia, unless the telephone or device is equipped with a hands-free accessory. The Distracted Driving Safety Act of 2004 is designed to improve traffic safety in DC by reducing the number of crashes caused by inattentive drivers who become distracted by the use of phones or other electronic devices. Note: The Metropolitan Police Department will be issuing warnings only to violators during the first month the law is in effect. Actual ticketing begins August 1, 2004. Read more information about the Distracted Driving Safety Act of 2004.

This year 9,188 properties will be auctioned, representing $55 million in commercial and residential real property tax liens for which property taxes were in arrears on October 1. Property owners with unpaid taxes have until the date of the auction to pay any taxes due and avoid having their properties sold. The Tax Sale is required by DC statute and will be held at 941 North Capitol Street, NE, Washington, DC, on the 4th floor. The Tax Sale will begin on Monday, July 12, 2004, and will continue each day that week during the hours of 8:30 am to noon and 1 pm to 4 pm, or until all properties advertised for that day are sold. Prospective bidders must register to participate. A list of the delinquent properties to be auctioned was advertised June 17, 2004, in The Washington Post and The Washington Times. Advertised properties are listed by parcel, square, suffix and lot number, name of the owner of record, and unpaid tax amount. A list of the properties to be included in the Tax Sale is also available online in the Tax Sale section of this website. To register for the Tax Sale auction or to inquire about the status of a delinquent property, please call the OTR Customer Service Center at (202) 727-4TAX (727-4829) or visit the Customer Service walk-in center at 941 North Capitol Street, NE. This is a special auction of properties that were bid off by the District of Columbia during a prior year Tax Sale but were not redeemed. The Special Bid Off Tax Sale will continue each day, excluding Saturdays, Sundays and legal holidays, during the hours of 8:30 am to 12 and 1 pm to 4 pm until all the properties have been offered at auction. OPGD Hosts Training on Revised Common Grant Application Formats The Mayor's Office of Partnerships and Grants Development (OPGD), in partnership with Washington Grantmakers, will host a training session for local nonprofits and community-based organizations to learn how to use the newly revised Common Grant Application Formats (CGAF). Washington Grantmakers, a membership organization serving grantmakers in the region, recently unveiled the revised Common Grant Application and Report Formats and the new Letter of Inquiry Format, which are intended to increase ease, efficiency, and the quality of proposals grantseekers submit. The goal of the CGAF is to serve the regions' grantmaking and grantseeking communities by streamlining the private foundation grant application process. It makes grantseeking easier as one standard proposal can be created and then customized for multiple funders. Members of Washington Grantmakers developed the format, with input from grantmakers, grantseekers, and evaluation experts. The CGAF training session will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2004, 9:30 am -noon, at One Judiciary Square, 441 4th Street, NW, Citywide Conference Center, Room 1104. This session is free, but registration is required. For further information on the training session or to register, contact OPGD at (202) 727-8900 by July 16. To access the CGAF, go to: Washington Grantmakers, Grantseeker Resource section. Visit OPGD. 5.
