-won the 2005 Internet Best in Class (IBIC) Award. The District of Columbia received this award at the fifth annual Content Week Conference February 2. DC.Gov placed first in a category that included Fortune 500 company websites that service millions of global customers.
According to the award sponsor, the International Quality and Productivity Center (IQPC), the Best In Class Internet examines all Internets regardless of industry. DC.Gov was named the best Internet by a panel of independent judges consisting of industry experts, journalists and the previous year's winner. DC.Gov was the only government website entry this year; as well as in 2004 when it received first runner-up honors.
The DC portal presents a "single face" of the District government for residents, businesses, visitors, and employees. Featuring 200 transactional applications and branded around the slogan, "Your City at Your Service," the site received more than 12 million visits in 2005.
"We were impressed," IQPC Conference Director Amy Thistle commented, "with the comprehensive array of resources, interactive applications and government services that DC.Gov offers the District of Columbia's diverse residents, business people and tourists from around the globe. 2. Date Announced for ProBiz 2006
ProBiz 2006 is nationally recognized as the premier small and minority business procurement opportunity conference. This one-day event is co-sponsored by the US Small Business Administration and the National Business League. ProBiz brings together small businesses with key procurement officials, financing resources, powerful information seminars, exhibits, and leading policy decision makers. This year's conference is expected to attract over 2,000 attendees from the Mid-Atlantic region. Key representatives from 18 local jurisdictions and independent entities exhibit their programs and procurement opportunities. The US Small Business Administration encourages major federal agencies to participate in seminars and exhibits. ProBiz 2006 will be held May 3, 2006, at the new Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC. Registration begins at 8 am with a full day of workshops, displays, bank loans, contract financing, bonding, procurement opportunities, and international trading with Africa, the Caribbean and South American countries. 3. BOT Small Business Academy Makes Program Changes and Extends Application Deadline
The Greater Washington Board of Trade's (BOT) Small Business Network has made some exciting changes to this spring's Small Business Academy program and has extended the deadline for applications to April 14. The network has made the following changes in response to feedback from alumni of the program:
- Academy will be condensed to a six month program starting May 4, 2006 and ending on November 2, 2006.
- Tuition fees will be reduced to $400 for non-member companies and $150 to Board of Trade members.
- Orientation reception will be hosted exclusively for incoming participants and Academy alumni.
- Renewed emphasis on small group interaction and team feedback sessions will be implemented in each class.

4. Southeastern University Offers Series of Classes on Microsoft Project
Southeastern University is offering a new series that will help entrepreneurs manage their projects and stay on budget with the leading software package from Microsoft. The series will be taught by Senad Mujik and will take place at Southeastern University's campus at 501 I Street, SW. The classes will be taught from 10 pm to 2 pm on the four consecutive Fridays beginning March 17.

5. NCRC and RLARC Issue Four RFQs
The National Capital Revitalization Corporation (NCRC) and the RLA Revitalization
Corporation (RLARC) are jointly inviting firms to submit qualification
statements for the following services:

6. National Women's Business Center Offers Series on Spanish for Entrepreneurs
The Language Key® training program provides intelligent no-nonsense training for adult learners who need to learn conversational Spanish for use in business, commerce and everyday life. This non-traditional training program is a proactive, fun, well-paced, lively and engaging method to learn and master Spanish for real world and conversational usage. The program is designed specifically to assist those in the corporate arena to interact and communicate with Spanish-speakers. This is a beginner level workshop for business professionals with little or no background in the Spanish language or for those who have some background in Spanish but are either weak in grammar or have no ability to speak conversationally.
Classes will be held from 6 pm to 9 pm on the four successive Mondays beginning May 1 and will be taught by Patrise Holden.
