4. OCP Sets Topics for Procurement Roundtables for LSDBEs

Esther M. Scarborough, interim chief procurement officer for the District of Columbia Office of Contracting and Procurement (OCP), announced the November and December topics for the OCP Procurement Awareness Roundtable Series. The topic for the November 29, 2006 OCP Roundtable is Roads, Highways, and Structures. The December 20, 2006 Roundtable will feature Information Technology and the DC Preparedness Office (Homeland Security). Participants will hear about fiscal year 2007-planned procurements, the procurement process, and the requirements necessary to receive an award. The series features one-on-one discussions with key contracting personnel responsible for agency and commodity group buying throughout the District.

The Roundtables represent the OCP component of the agreement between OCP and the Howard University/Washington DC Small Business Development Center (DC SBDC) to present Successful Contracting for Local, Small, and Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (LSDBES)–a series of practical, hands-on business development workshops that complement the OCP Roundtables and are designed to help prospective and existing LSDBEs advance their skills in doing business with the Government of the District of Columbia.

6. DDOT Sets Meeting on Lower Georgia Avenue Transportation and Streetscape

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is hosting the first in a series of community meetings to engage residents, business owners, and other users in developing a collective vision for the future of Lower Georgia Avenue.

DDOT's Lower Georgia Avenue Transportation and Streetscape Study is part of the District's "Great Streets Initiative," a multi-year, multi-agency effort to transform under-invested corridors into thriving neighborhood centers. Great Streets uses public actions and tools such as the designs that will come out of the Lower Georgia Avenue Transportation and Streetscape Study to leverage private investment.

Georgia Avenue, NW, has been identified as a "Great Street," and as such DDOT and its partner agencies want to improve transportation services along the corridor to enhance economic development and facilitate mobility.

Those business owners, Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners (ANCs), civic associations, developers and residents interested in improving the quality of life and transportation along Lower Georgia Avenue between New Hampshire and Florida Avenues are encouraged to attend.

When: Tuesday, November 14 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm
